Who Do you work with?
I provide individual therapy to adolescents (12+) and adults for a wide range of issues. My clinical expertise and areas of interest are working with people who have experienced long-term mental health complaints and people who identify as LGBTQIAP+. Although I work individually, sometimes clients like to have a single session where partners and/or family members have a joint session to help collaborate on how to best help with your care.
I often work with people who have the following complaints or diagnosed disorders: sleep and circadian rhythm difficulties; emotion regulation difficulties; anxiety disorders; mood disorders (depression and bipolar disorder); personality disorders; and, eating disorders (particularly binge eating disorder). I also see health care providers who are seeking their own mental health support.
I am also available for WPATH assessments for individuals who may require this as part of their gender affirmation/transition process.

What therapy do you use?
I use a variety of evidence-based approaches including: cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and schema therapy. I am an accredited advanced schema therapist (individual therapy). These are the main therapeutic modalities that inform the way I work, but therapy will always be individualised based on why you have come to therapy and what you find most helpful.
I strongly believe (with supporting evidence) that one of the most important predictors of therapeutic success is the relationship between you (client) and I (psychologist). Given this, I like to have a brief phone call before our first appointment to make sure (1) I feel I can help you with your specific needs, and, (2) also to give you a first impression of whether you feel you can work with me.

How much are your fees?
Initial sessions will last for approximately 80-90 minutes and will cost $300.00 to be charged at the end of the session to your credit card. Subsequent sessions will cost $240.00 for a 50-minute consultation. Some people may request to have longer sessions (especially if people request additional people such as partners/parents in session) this will cost $300 for 80-90 minutes. Please note the Australian Psychological Society recommend $280 for 46-60 minute sessions. There are additional report-writing fees for the WPATH assessments.
If referred by a G.P. along with a Mental Health Care Plan, or by a psychiatrist, clients receive a rebate of $131.65 per session via Medicare for 50+ minute sessions. This will be processed at the end of each session. Up to 10 Medicare-rebated sessions can be claimed in the 2023 calendar year. The full fee is processed in session and the rebate of $131.65 is credited to your nominated bank account by Medicare. If you are being seen under an Eating Disorder Plan you may receive up to 40 medicare-rebated sessions in the year.
Alternatively, clients may wish to claim the consultation fee under NDIS, WorkCover, or TAC, if these options are available to you.
Private health rebates may also be available, depending on your level of cover.

How many sessions do i need?
Generally I work with clients who are looking to explore longer-term issues in the context of how it is impacting them today. Given this, I tend to work with clients for longer periods of time over months or years. Ideally, it is a joint decision, where both of us will feel our sessions are no longer needed when I become "obsolete" and you feel comfortable without the support of a psychologist.
It is very unusual that I would work with clients for less than 10 sessions, so please consider finances in reaching out to me (as medicare rebates are only available for 10 sessions per calendar year)

HOW FREQUENTLY DO WE HAVE SESSIONS?
At the beginning I find weekly or fortnightly sessions are best to build some momentum towards your therapeutic goals. As we continue to work together we would start to space out the sessions as you begin to feel capable of doing more work independently outside of our sessions.
Format of appointments
Appointments are available on Thursdays from 7:30am-3:30pm either through telehealth or face to face. Wednesdays appointments are available between 1pm-5pm (telehealth only). Limited appointments are available every second Saturday from 8am-1pm (telehealth only). Some clients choose to do a mixture of telehealth and face to face depending on your preference and availability.
